Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
The Relationship Bible (“the App,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a Christ-centered relationship discipleship app operated under the name The Relationship Bible, Kampala, Uganda. For privacy questions or requests, contact therelationshipbibleapp@gmail.com.
This policy explains how we handle information when you use our iOS and Android apps and their related support pages.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Account and profile information
When you create an account, we collect your email address and display name. Our authentication provider stores a protected form of your password; we do not see or store it in plain text. We also generate an editable username so people who already know it can request to add you to their Support Circle.
You may optionally provide your date of birth, gender, denomination, and one or more life seasons. We derive your age from your date of birth for personalization. You can edit this information in the App.
2.2 Reading, learning, and content you create
We store Bible references you save or open, highlights, notes, Expression and Journal documents, lesson encounters, plan enrollments and progress, Relationship Map attention, and similar journey activity needed to provide and personalize the App. Reflection Rhythm is calculated from lesson encounter dates and plan activity already stored for these features.
Bible verse text is fetched through our Bible service and is not stored in our database. Chapters may be cached locally on your device so previously opened Scripture remains available and loads quickly. If you export a Scripture picture, the App creates it on your device and you choose whether and where to share it.
Expressions may optionally let you choose a photo from your device as a background. If you do, we upload that photo to private, account-scoped storage so you can reopen the Expression. We do not access photos you do not select. Your Expression document stores the private image reference and design position, not another copy of the image or any Bible wording.
2.3 Companion conversations
When you choose to use Companion, we collect the messages you send and the generated replies. We also send the model provider contextual information needed to respond appropriately. Depending on what you have provided and where you opened Companion, this can include:
- the current lesson, plan, Bible passage, or topic;
- your life seasons, derived age, gender, and denomination;
- lessons and plans explored or completed, dimension progress, active-plan context, and aggregated Bible Swipe performance; and
- recent messages in the current conversation.
We do not send your name, email address, username, raw date of birth, Support Circle membership, private notes, or highlights to the model provider. Later turns use a reduced context, but recent conversation messages remain necessary to continue the exchange.
We store Companion conversations in our database for operation, safety, reporting, and review. The current app starts each visible Companion session fresh and does not present old conversations as cross-session memory.
2.4 Support Circle and support directory
We store Support Circle requests and accepted account links. There is no public username directory or username search; someone must know your exact username and you must accept their request. Either person can remove the connection.
The professional-support directory is readable in the App. If you contact a provider, you leave the App and communicate through the provider’s phone number, website, email, or booking service. We do not send the provider your profile or Companion data.
2.5 Bible Swipe gameplay
We store game sessions, answers, categories, XP, streak, badges, and personal-best information. Bible Swipe performance stays within Play except for the limited Scripture-streak invitation described in the App, and aggregated performance may be used as a Companion journey signal.
2.6 Christian Living and Store activity
Christian Living may store private care plans, saved recommendations, practice and check-in records, and Relationship Map landmarks so they remain available across your devices. The Store remembers your manually selected shopping country on your device. An experience city and browsing filters are used to show the current results and are not obtained from device location services.
When you choose, we store Store listings you save and statuses you explicitly provide, such as viewed, bought, booked, given, used, or attended, together with optional feedback about whether an idea helped. These are your statements, not transaction records received from a retailer. We cannot observe or verify whether an external purchase, booking, delivery, refund, or attendance occurred. We do not receive payment-card details, order numbers, booking records, or retailer account credentials.
You may report a Store listing as unavailable, inaccurate, broken, suspicious, or expired. We store the listing, report reason, optional detail, account, and review status so staff can investigate it.
2.7 Diagnostics
We use Sentry to receive crash reports, performance traces, and diagnostics such as app version, device model, operating system, timestamps, stack traces, screen or route context, and network information such as an IP address where the service receives it. We do not intentionally attach Companion messages, notes, highlights, passwords, or Bible selections to Sentry reports.
2.8 Moments and the Relationship Assistant
When you choose to use Moments, we store the information you deliberately enter about people and situations you want to care for. This may include a person's display name and relationship label, dates and occasions, preferences or things they mentioned, commitments, your desired outcome, preparation and follow-up actions, completion status, reminder intent, and private associations with reviewed Store listings. Moments does not import your contacts, read your calendar, or inspect your email.
Moments information is private to your account and is encrypted on your device before local persistence. It synchronizes to owner-scoped database records so it can survive reinstall or appear on another signed-in device. Notification permission is requested only when you choose a reminder. Notifications are scheduled by the device, use generic lock-screen wording, and do not include a person's name, your action wording, or other private relationship prose. There are no push notification tokens.
When you deliberately submit text to the Relationship Assistant, we send that submitted text to our server and Anthropic's commercial API to interpret it into a structured proposal. We do not attach your existing Moments people, memories, actions, Store associations, contacts, calendar, email, profile, Companion history, or other private relationship graph. The proposal is not saved as relationship memory until you review, correct, and confirm it. We store a content-free daily usage count to enforce the feature limit; it records usage, not what you wrote.
3. How we use information
We use information to:
- create and secure accounts;
- provide Bible reading, saved content, plans, lessons, the Relationship Map, Support Circle, Play, synchronization, and personalized suggestions;
- provide Christian Living and Store discovery, remember private saved items and user-confirmed outcomes, recheck reported listings, and avoid repeating unsuitable suggestions;
- provide Moments, synchronize the relationship information you deliberately save, schedule locally requested reminders, and return editable Relationship Assistant proposals;
- generate and store Companion conversations;
- detect possible crisis language and direct users toward human support;
- investigate reported Companion responses, abuse, fraud, security incidents, and technical failures;
- maintain, measure, and improve reliability and safety; and
- comply with law and enforce our Terms of Service.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on performance of our agreement with you, your consent for optional features or profile information, our legitimate interests in operating and protecting the App, and compliance with legal obligations. You may withdraw consent for future optional processing, but that does not invalidate earlier lawful processing.
4. Service providers and disclosure
We do not sell personal information and do not use it for third-party advertising. We disclose information only as described below.
Anthropic
We send Companion messages and the contextual fields described in section 2.3, and deliberately submitted Relationship Assistant text described in section 2.8, to Anthropic’s commercial API to generate responses or structured proposals. Under Anthropic’s published standard commercial API practices, inputs and outputs are not used for model training by default and are ordinarily deleted from its backend within 30 days. Anthropic may retain some data longer where required for law or usage-policy enforcement, including flagged content. Its current terms and our actual account settings control if they change.
Supabase
Supabase provides authentication, database hosting, private file storage, and backend functions. It processes account and app data on our behalf. We use encrypted connections, owner-scoped storage policies, and database row-level access controls.
Sentry
Sentry processes the diagnostics described in section 2.7 to help us identify crashes, performance problems, and errors.
YouVersion Platform
Our Bible function requests a Bible version and USFM chapter reference from the YouVersion Platform to retrieve Scripture text and required attribution. YouVersion does not receive your App account identity from us, although its servers may receive ordinary request metadata from our backend.
External retailers, venues, and experience providers
Store links open the approved retailer or provider in its app or your normal browser. Some links contain an affiliate identifier, which can tell the destination that the visit came from The Relationship Bible. We do not append your App account identity, profile, Companion messages, care plan, Relationship Map history, Support Circle activity, private notes, or Store answers. The external destination may receive ordinary web-request information and handles its own payment, booking, fulfilment, returns, refunds, cancellations, customer support, cookies, and privacy practices. We may receive aggregate affiliate reporting or commission under the affiliate programme, but we do not receive your payment credentials or private App data from the destination.
Legal and safety disclosures
We may preserve or disclose information where reasonably necessary to comply with law or lawful process; protect the rights, security, and integrity of users, the public, the App, or our providers; investigate abuse; or respond to an emergency involving risk of death or serious physical harm. The App is not continuously monitored and is not an emergency service.
5. Crisis detection and response reporting
The App checks each Companion message for language that may indicate self-harm, abuse, or danger. A device-side check can intervene before a message is sent; the server repeats the check. If triggered, the normal input is hidden and Connect with Someone is shown. We use this only to change the in-app response and provide support options, not to diagnose you.
You can report a Companion response. The report links your account, selected reason, reported response, and the minimum conversation context required for a restricted manual review. Reports are not visible to other users.
6. Storage, security, and international transfers
Our providers may process information outside Uganda or your country. Those locations may have different data-protection laws. Where required, we rely on contractual safeguards or other lawful transfer mechanisms provided by our service providers.
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including encrypted transmission, protected authentication tokens, access controls, and database row-level security. No online service can promise absolute security. Please use a unique password and do not place information in Companion that you do not want processed as described here.
7. Retention and deletion
We generally keep account and app data while your account is active. You may permanently delete your account from Me → About → Delete account. Deletion removes your authentication account and associated profile, saved content, uploaded Expression images, journey and plan data, Christian Living and Store records and reports, Moments people, memories, situations, actions and listing associations, Support Circle links, gameplay data, Companion conversations, and response reports from our active systems. It cannot be undone.
Deletion from our active systems may not immediately remove encrypted backups, security logs, or data already held temporarily by a provider. Those copies expire under provider retention schedules unless law or security needs require longer preservation. Anthropic’s standard API retention is described in section 4. Sentry controls diagnostic retention under our project configuration. We may retain limited records where legally required or necessary to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
8. Your choices and rights
You can edit profile information, inspect, correct, archive or delete what Moments remembers, remove Support Circle connections, choose whether to use optional Companion, Relationship Assistant, reminders and Play features, and delete your account in the App. Depending on your location, you may also request access, correction, a portable copy, restriction, objection, or deletion of personal information, and may complain to your local data-protection authority. Contact therelationshipbibleapp@gmail.com. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.
9. Children
The App is not directed to children under 13 and must not be used by anyone below the minimum age required to consent to an online service in their country without legally valid parental authorization. If you believe a child has provided information contrary to this section, contact us and we will investigate and delete it where required.
10. Changes
We may update this policy as the App or law changes. We will change the “Last updated” date and, where required, provide an in-app notice or request consent before a material change takes effect.
